A Prayer for August
Our theme for 2020 is "Trust & Rest." This is especially timely in these days in which we currently find ourselves. Please join us in trusting and resting in our faithful God as you pray this prayer of trust with us.
My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Psalm 62:7-8
Gracious Father, we praise you for who you are. You are sovereign over all, and we rest secure in that knowledge. As the words of this Psalm remind us, we can pour out our hearts to you. You listen to our cries for help and you hear us. No matter what is going on in our lives or the world around us, you are always available to us and you love us beyond anything we can imagine. Thank you for your presence in every situation we find ourselves. When we are afraid, you are our refuge. When we are weak, you are our strength. When our hearts are breaking because of the chaos, injustice, and hardship we see happening in our world, you are the mighty rock on which we can stand and the shelter in our storm. Forgive us for attempting to solve our problems in our own strength. Forgive us for looking to earthly things for strength, refuge, or the solution to problems that only you can provide.
Father, as your Church, help us to see each person we encounter as an Image-bearer of you. Let us live in a way that points others to you. We desire that the hurting, the poor, the vulnerable, and the disabled might come to know you in this real and personal way, finding a place of refuge and peace through trust in you. Give us your heart for others, as we rest secure in you as our mighty rock and refuge.
In the name of Jesus, our shelter in the storms of life, we pray. Amen.
