A Prayer for April

Our theme for 2020 is "Trust & Rest." This is especially timely in these days in which we currently find ourselves. Please join us in trusting and resting in our faithful God as you pray this prayer of trust with us.

On God rests my salvation and my glory;
    my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

Trust in him at all times, O people;
    pour out your heart before him;
    God is a refuge for us. Selah

Psalm 62:7-8

God our Salvation, you have called your people to trust and rest in you. We lift our hearts in praise to you for being a God whose desire is for us to be wholly dependent. The world that surrounds us manufactures skepticism and is filled with anxious worry. There are voices from every side constantly telling us that no one is trustworthy, and we cannot ever let our guard down. But yours is the voice that we need to hear. Yours is the gentle whisper that offers us peace and drowns out the noise of unbelief. Teach us to hear your voice. Remind us of your love that will not let us go. Thank you for continuously providing opportunities for us to exhibit trust and rest. We would never choose for difficulties to take place in our lives, but in your wisdom, you know that trust and rest can only be learned through hardship. For your strength is made perfect in our weakness. Grow our faith as we face hard times even now. As the world is reeling from this pandemic, settle our hearts to operate out of faith instead of fear. The only way we can do that is by laying our worries and cares at your feet.

Mighty Rock, we pray for our world and its leaders as they make difficult decisions regarding the health and safety of the masses. Give them wisdom in how to best navigate these strange days. We also lift up our medical personnel, as they are on the frontlines of this battle. Keep them safe, refreshed, and strengthened in this time where so much is being asked of them. Comfort those who are grieving the loss of loved ones. May they experience your divine peace that surpasses all understanding. For all those who have contracted this virus, we ask that you would place your healing touch upon them. You are God of the universe as well as the atom. Nothing falls outside of your rule and reign. We trust and rest in you through this viral pandemic.

God our Refuge, we ask now for a special measure of your grace & comfort upon our brothers and sisters living with a disability around the world. Social distancing, shelter-in-place, and quarantining have made life so much more challenging. We ask that you would mobilize your Church to reach out to protect and provide for this marginalized and vulnerable population. Convict your people to sacrificially reach beyond the four walls of their homes and seek the well-being of our disabled neighbors. Throughout the Majority World where physical resources are limited, as well as medical care, Lord, we pray that you would work in miraculous ways and spare many from sickness and harm.

In all these things, we place our trust and rest in you, because you are the same God who clothes the flowers of the field and feeds the sparrow. If you have protected and provided for these, how much more will you protect and provide for your children?

In the powerful name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
